Pro-Am Dancing Explained

  • Format: A professional dance instructor partners with a student for competitions or shows.
  • Analogy: Similar to the structure of the BBC show "Strictly Come Dancing."
  • Additional Division: A "Teacher-Student" division exists for amateur instructors to compete with their students.

Benefits of Pro-Am Dancing

Accelerated Learning: Dancing with a professional teacher helps you learn faster. You get direct guidance on technique and timing, and you don't have to worry about finding a compatible partner.

Glamour and Fun: Pro-Am dancing is a glamorous and highly enjoyable activity. It provides a lively mix of social interaction and entertainment.

Pro-Am competitions are typically categorized by:

  • Levels: Beginners, Bronze, Silver, and Gold
  • Age Groups: Under 25, 25-34,35-45, 46-55, 56-65, over 65
  • Styles: Ballroom, Latin, Smooth, Rhythm, Argentine Tango, and more

Pro-Am Competition Flexibility

  • Varying Categories: Age and skill-level categories can differ between events.
  • Multiple Entries: Dancers are often permitted to compete in more than one style.
  • Optional Placement: Competitors may choose to enter a higher skill level or a lower age group than their own

This year, KDC is revolutionizing its Pro-Am category by introducing a more affordable and equitable entry fee for students.

This new pricing structure will enable students to participate in and enjoy multiple entries.

 Pro/Am Categories

Here is a breakdown of the costs for the KDC Pro/Am categories:

  • 1 category: 25€ per student
  • 2 categories: 35€ per student
  • Each additional category: 7€ per student

Pro-Am Latin Scholarship 2025

Pro-Am 3 Dance Scholarship Competition:

In these competitions, each Pro-Am couple must dance all three ( or 5 ) dances of that particular event
(e.g., 3-dance Standard- W, T, QS, e.g., 3-dance Latin - SA, CH, RU) in a row. 
The rankings of the couples (not just the students) are determined by a tabulation of the marks from all the judges in all dances.

The 3 or 5-Dance Open Scholarship is the highest level of Pro-Am competition.
To be eligible for the Scholarship and Rising Star Scholarship competitions, the couple MUST dance and register for Single Dances in the same dance style. They wish to dance in the Scholarship or Rising Star competition - (Standard, Latin American Rhythm - 5 Single dance; American Smooth
