KDC 2026 · Friday Training Experience
Movement Lab — From Music to Movement
with Maggie Unger
Contemporary · Jazz · Hip-Hop
A cross-discipline movement experience exploring how
dancers can use musicality, dynamics, texture and
improvisation to transform familiar choreography
into an individual performance.
01
Texture & Dynamics
Flow · Weight · Energy · Contrast
“Same movement. Different quality.”
Explore how one movement can completely change
through weight, flow, resistance, suspension,
sharpness, softness and explosive energy.
Contemporary fluidity, Jazz precision and Hip-Hop
groove become tools for discovering different
movement qualities rather than separate worlds.
Training Focus
Break away from performing every movement with
the same energy and create visible dynamic contrast.
02
Musicality & Movement Choices
Rhythm · Layers · Accents · Silence
“Hear more. Then choose how to move.”
Learn to hear beyond the obvious beat.
Explore rhythmic layers, accents, melody,
lyrics, pauses and changes of energy and
discover how different musical choices can create
completely different interpretations of the
same phrase.
Training Focus
Develop musical intelligence instead of simply
matching movement to counts.
03
Freestyle to Performance
Individuality · Intention · Presence
“Learn the choreography. Then make it yours.”
Through guided improvisation and short movement
challenges, dancers explore
personal style, intention, spatial awareness,
confidence and performance presence.
The goal is not to abandon choreography, but to
discover how individuality can live inside it.
Competition Focus
Apply personal movement quality and artistic identity
while keeping choreography technically clear,
controlled and competition-ready.
