Routine integrity

This page preserves the supplied sequence, measures and musical-bar allocation. It does not automatically substitute figures or change the authored choreography.

Category convention

Pre-Bronze and Bronze are treated as one operational KDC category: Bronze. The routine therefore uses Bronze, Silver and Gold as its displayed levels.

Understand the Competition Floor

Standard and Latin require different spatial thinking. Use these diagrams as choreography and floor-craft concepts: protect your route, preserve presentation, and adapt without breaking the character of the dance.

Competition Round Strategy Manual

Supporting guidance for executing the full Cha Cha · Samba · Rumba · Paso Doble · Jive round: syllabus discipline, floor craft, tactical positioning and stamina pacing.

01 · Invigilation & Syllabus Boundaries

4-measure unpartnered limit: maximum 4 consecutive measures without physical contact; re-establish contact for at least 2 full measures before another unpartnered line or solo figure.
  • Bronze: basic/single-beat and standard chassé syncopations; no Guapacha, off-beat flick syncopations or double-time footwork.
  • Silver / Gold: complex syncopations only where defined by the applicable syllabus/manual.
  • Open-position syllabus figures must use recognized exits rather than extended solo improvisation.
  • No lifts, fully supported drops or actions removing both feet from normal floor contact.

02 · Traveling Floor Craft

Samba & Paso Doble: organize progression counter-clockwise along the Line of Dance.

  • Use circular actions such as Circular Voltas, Grand Circle or La Passe as corner escape tools.
  • If the outside lane becomes congested, use a suitable progressive figure toward the center axis to bypass traffic.
  • Maintain choreography character while adapting the path to available space.

03 · Spot-Dance Positioning

Cha Cha · Rumba · Jive: treat the choreography as stationary/axis-based rather than following a fixed Line of Dance.

  • Avoid beginning in a trapped corner.
  • Use 90° and 180° orientation changes to expose lines to different judging sides.
  • Preserve an escape direction for collision recovery.

5-Dance Energy Management

10–12 MIN ROUND STRATEGY
DanceEnergy OutputPrimary FocusConservation Strategy
1 · Cha Cha80%Crisp rhythm · sharp speed · clean leg actionsEstablish presence early; prioritize sharp feet rather than excessive spatial coverage.
2 · Samba90%Bounce · continuous progression · staminaLet ankles and knees absorb bounce naturally; avoid unnecessary upper-body tension through Volta sections.
3 · Rumba60% · Active RecoveryWeight transfer · hip action · extensionControl breathing through holds and softer Cuban actions while maintaining presentation intensity.
4 · Paso Doble85%Posture · dramatic phrasing · accentsGenerate power through posture and shape; reserve explosive output for Highlight 1 and Highlight 2.
5 · Jive100%Elasticity · speed · kick action · finishCommit remaining energy while driving through weight transfer rather than excessive knee lift.

Final Competition Round Checklist

  1. On-Court Entry: establish posture immediately and begin the planned entry as the music starts.
  2. First Line of Sight: place major Silver/Gold highlight combinations where they can be clearly presented to the adjudicator panel.
  3. Collision Recovery: move into an appropriate basic/recovery action, re-align toward available space, then resume the authored choreography without freezing or losing character.
Training/manual content is stored separately from the authored choreography database. Event-specific syllabus and invigilation requirements should be checked against the regulations governing the competition being entered.
